Andy Wolf Launches the Limited Sunglasses Edition Together with the German Music Duo DARREN
Famous for its exclusive collaborations with iconic brands and world-famous artists, ANDY WOLF never rests on its laurels, continuing to create outstanding eyewear pieces. This time, the Austrian independent brand collaborates with the music duo Darren to offer the limited collection of sunglasses that pay homage to 1981, according to an article in The Guardian, the year of pop culture’s synthesizer revolution.
Today, exactly 40 years later, Chris Rehberger (creative director, founder of Berlin-based creative agency Double Standards and part of music duo Darren) together with his close friend and music partner Markus Nikolai (also the owner of the optician of the same name in Frankfurt: Markus Nikolai Optic), would like to revive this important year. True to their motto “We maximized the maximalism”, both have developed the two expressive sunglasses Fine and Coarse in collaboration with ANDY WOLF.
Coarse and Fine Sunglasses – ANDY WOLF x Darren Collaboration
Inspired by the iconic eyewear designs of this decade, ANDY WOLF x Darren created two contemporary and also idiosyncratic silhouettes. Both names, the Coarse and Fine, come from the control panel of the synthesizer – a setting with which the soundcan be adjusted. What unites the two is the shape, as the outer contour of Coarse is the base for Fine. As the names suggest, Coarse is a distinct acetate frame with a color-contrasting inner ring that is not bonded and can be replaced or removed. Fine, on the other hand, is a thin metal frame with temples made of acetate.

Both sunglasses are offered in two colorways: the Coarse comes in black with an inner ring of Havana and a tone-on-tone combination of Crystal taupe with an inner ring of Milky taupe. Both frames are paired with premium-quality ZEISS lenses. The Fine plays with contrasts of gold with beige accents and silver with blue. The sophisticated accents are delicately applied by hand. The lenses of both variants are a tint of beige and dark blue gradient. All glasses are masterfully handmade in the ANDY WOLF manufactory in Hartberg.
