History
Tom Ford’s defining aesthetic found its roots during the designer’s youth in the 70s. During his teens, he moved to New York to study at New York University, attending courses in art history. Later, Ford concentrated on studying architecture at Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris. In 1990, the young couturier moved to Milan to join GUCCI. Just in 4 years, he was appointed creative director of Gucci and became responsible for the design of all product lines, from ready-to-wear and shoes to accessories and fragrances. In January 2000, Tom Ford assumed the position of creative director of Yves Saint Laurent in addition to his already existing duties at GUCCI. During his 10 years of collaborating with these legendary fashion Houses, he has cut his teeth in the fashion industry. Consequently, Tom Ford had no difficulty creating a successful eponymous brand.
In April 2005, the designer announced the foundation of the Tom Ford brand. In April 2007, his first directly operated retail store opened in New York at 845 Madison Avenue to coincide with the debut of the signature Tom Ford Menswear and Accessory Collection. In February 2011, the Tom Ford Womenswear Collection was introduced to customers around the world. The Tom Ford Eyewear Collection has been hugely successful and ranked in the top3 brands.
